Letting go can be one of the most powerful steps we ever make. It sounds simple enough but anyone who has tried, knows that it can sometimes be a sticky business.

Many of us hold tightly to emotions, relationships, or material possessions. Sometimes it is so unconscious, we don’t even recognise it. However, surrendering these attachments can open the door to new potential, creativity, and abundant possibilities.

This post explores the transformative impact of letting go and how it has the power to change our lives.

Between holding on and letting go

Recently, while interacting with myself and others, I have observed the spirals of change that are moving for many of us right now. Job changes, divorces, relocation, and retirement—the list is nearly endless.

Although these can sometimes present as positive transitions, not every change is welcome.

Occasionally, like me, you may find yourself in the space between, where you aren’t ready to let go of something or someone just yet, but know that you must. This tug between the familiar and the murky unknown can cause a sense of resistance against the natural flow of life, making these inevitable changes challenging to face and accept.

In my line of work as an energy healer, I have observed that, often, this mental resistance manifests as an embodied sensation that makes us ‘clench’ and causes the heart space to close in on itself.

We can find ourselves stuck in the muddiness of our thoughts and emotions, unable to move in any direction, with resolution and release feeling more elusive than ever.

This further isolates us from our ability to unlock abundance, creativity, healing and flow in our lives.

Acknowledging our attachments

As a bit of a control freak, I must admit that no two words trigger me more than “let go”.

It means I must acknowledge that I am still holding on to something, whether I am aware of it or not. It challenges me to confront the stories I have become deeply attached to and take steps to observe and heal that narrative. Sometimes, I find that I either distract or numb myself until the pain becomes too obvious and uncomfortable to ignore, and I must eventually face reality as it is.

Many of us are inclined to believe that we are open to change, especially in the direction of something that we deeply desire, or dream about. Often, to realise these dreams, we must be willing to surrender something we already have to be able to receive an alternative that is more aligned with who we are. Surprisingly, this is not always easy.

In this sense, the idea of letting go brings into focus our strong attachments and reminds us that everything in this life is impermanent.

By choosing to let go of the dead wood you are carrying, you allow yourself to release your grip on the familiar and invite the possibility of new experiences, true freedom and deep inner peace. In this way, you give yourself permission to expand into the possibility of your potential and realise yourself as worthy and deserving of the life you wish to bring into manifestation.

To be able to access the heart’s intuitive guidance, you must be willing to be present with and surrender to simply allowing things to be as they are. This permits the heart space to open and emanate a sense of expansiveness, naturally syncing you to the rhythm and frequency of the earth. When this happens, you can come into flow with the healing and infinite abundance that is available to us all.

This shift requires you to unburden yourself from what no longer serves your highest and best good. By dropping the baggage, you can come up open-handed to receive the abundance that life wishes to offer to you.

Walking the path to acceptance

Much like you cannot force a flower to bloom, you cannot push yourself to let go before you are ready. It may take time to release attachments and invite the new in. Accept and allow things to unfold in their natural time and be gentle with yourself as you navigate the changes ahead.

Reach out to those who uplift you and find ways to do more of what you enjoy or are passionate about. Adopting practices like meditation, bodywork and journalling can reinforce your commitment to surrender and support your overall self-care.

Take time to honour yourself, your experience and the learnings you are blessed with.

Embracing the new

Letting go creates space for new experiences and opportunities that can dramatically change your life. Each time you release something that no longer serves you, you step into a realm filled with infinite possibilities.

Is there something you have been holding on to that you feel you need to release?

Perhaps it is time to ask if the act of holding on brings you closer to where you wish to be or pulls you further away from achieving the vision you hold for your future.

Be brave. Delve deep. You will find your answer in the heart.

With much love. xoxo
